i watch my boy grow, and sometimes he looks me in the eye and i feel he knows me. his look penetrates through me and openes me up, into the depths, the waters are still for a moment.

I remember when i was in school they always said the only way to really learn something was to teach it.
I think your saying is saying sort of the same thing, and I am glad to have heard it...it is new to me but it is one of those things that once you hear it you intuitively know it's true.
i wish i had the full quote. its from the paul auster book of memories. he was writing it at a time when he was breaking up with his wife. his father had just died. its full of these random thoughts.
